To Young Learners

Abstract
Wanting our
students to write in kindergarten can be a main reason for many spelling
mistakes in elementary and upper cycles. Are our students really writing? Or
copying? Or maybe drawing the words? In addition, relying on memorization in
reading rather than teaching kids how to decode words using sound blending and
sound segmenting can produce poor readers later on.
This workshop
aims at helping teachers follow the natural development of language by applying
the 5 elements of reading which will help learners in reading properly before
writing correctly. The story My Dog below is used as model to demonstrate how
the five elements of reading can be successfully applied in class.
This workshop was
given as a solution in a school where kindergarten students were facing
problems during their transition to grade one. The problems found in grade one were
mainly in reading fluently and accurately as well as in dictation.
Target Audience: Teachers of kindergarten up to grade 6 classes
can benefit from this workshop as well as coordinators.
